Edgar Allan Poe Edgar Allan Poe is well known for his poetry. Edgar Allan Poe was not only a world renowned poet, but he is also known as being a writer of short stories, as well as known for being a critic. Edgar Allan Poe has many literary works; quite possibly the most famous one being The Raven. Some of Edgar Allan Poeââ¬â¢s other famous works include The Tell-Tale Heart, The Fall of the House of Usher, and Annabel Lee. Edgar Allan Poe is also known as being a Romanticist, due to the fact that he was an author during the Romantic period. Edgar Allan Poe was born to actors Elizabeth Arnold Hopkins and David Poe. However, young Edgar Allan Poeââ¬â¢s parents passed away when he was almost three years old. Poe was then fortunate enough to be taken in by John and Frances Allan. In 1815, Edgar and his foster parents moved to England. While Poe was living in England, he went to school in Chelsey, England. Poe and his foster family lived in England for five years. In 1820, Poe and his family moved back to America. They had settled in Richmond, Virginia. Edgar Allan Poe then went to college at the University of Virginia, where he chose to learn poetry and Latin. However, Poe later ran into financial problems and ultimately ended up leaving college. Edgar Allan Poeââ¬â¢s financial problems ran deep. This was because Poe enjoyed gambling a little too much. Unfortunately, Poe had acquired way too much debt from gambling.
